We have handled hundreds of individual cases since Military Experts was founded in 2011. Most of our work is in tort cases for either plaintiff or defense, but we have been involved in many other areas of the law where a military member’s status is a key component of the case. Here are a few representative samples of recent work:

Case resolved by settlement agreement.

Active Duty Army Officer was seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident, leading to his disability separation from the service. Our Experts worked with the soldier’s attorney to show that the injuries prevented him from reaching his career potential and calculated his loss of pay and benefits at $8.5 million.

Case resolved by settlement agreement.

Army Reserve Noncommissioned Officer suffered lower extremity amputation due to a mishap in his civilian job, ending his Army career. Our Experts determined his probable career path but for the injury and calculated his loss of reserve pay and benefits at $750,000.

Case resolved without trial.

Active Duty Navy Petty Officer claimed that injuries received in a bar fight caused his disability retirement from the service. Our Experts worked with defense counsel to obtain military medical records that clearly showed that other injuries were the proximate cause of his discharge.

Case resolved without trial.

Army National Guard Noncommissioned Officer claimed that a motor vehicle accident prevented his promotion and prematurely ended his career. Our Experts worked with defense counsel to obtain military personnel and training records to show that his performance had not declined since the accident and that his retirement was voluntary, rather than due to disability.

Case resolved at trial.

Servicemember’s spouse sought divorce and split of military benefits. Our Experts helped the attorney client to understand and quantify the benefits the servicemember was entitled to receive and provided a report rebutting an inflated calculation produced by the spouse.

Case resolved at mediation.

Child victim of sexual assault sued the school district who employed the accused, a military veteran. Our Experts helped plaintiff’s counsel to obtain and understand the accused’s military record (including his bad conduct discharge for a similar offense) and to prepare questions for his deposition.
